Registering for classes can be extremely frustrating. Here we offer some helpful hints that will reduce the frustration. Listed below are common questions we answer every term about registration. There is also a description of selected classes, information about overrides and how to get into certain classes like COM 223, ECON 235 and ENG 249.
Students interested in pursuing an ITK major may take ITK 160 without being in the major or minor. Several sections of the class are open to all students. In addition we will remove the major blocks from all sections of ITK 160 after all majors and minors have had an opportunity to register.
Students not in the major may also be able to take ITK 168, ITK 177, ITK 178, ITK 179, and ITK 277 if space is available.
The following classes are also available to all students enrolled at ISU: ITK 115, ITK 140, ITK 150 and ITK 214. Please note that some of these courses do have pre-requisites. The ITK Department does not waive pre-requisite requirements.
Undergraduate Advising posts a schedule of Advising Hours at the beginning of each term. Some hours each day are reserved for students who need assistance with changes to their major, scheduling classes etc. Occasionally, the schedule may change due to University events. It is recommended that you call the Advising Office at 309-438-5186 to confirm availability before coming to campus. Office hours for the current term can be found here.
Entry notices for advance registration will be posted on iCampus early in October and March of each year. If you do not receive this notice contact the Student Services Center in Moulton 107.
ITK classes fill very quickly. Registering promptly will help you enroll in the courses and sections you want. Watch the bulletin boards in Old Union and in Stevenson Hall for changes in ITK course offerings, including new or cancelled sections, new course offerings and instructor assignments. We also post information about ITK classes and classes from other Departments on the Advising listserv.
ALL courses required for the ITK major or minor MUST BE TAKEN FOR A LETTER GRADE. THIS INCLUDES SUPPORTING REQUIREMENTS. Remember that a minimum grade of “C” or better is required for each of these classes.
So what good is Pass /Fail. It can be used for classes be not required for the ITK major or minor. In some cases, a General Education Course may be taken Pass/Fail. Always check with your advisor before enrolling in a course for a grade of Pass/Fail.
Waiting list request forms are available outside the Advising Office in OU 302. There is a form for majors and another for minors. The Advising office will review requests within 24 hours of submission. In most cases we can meet the needs of all majors and minors who make the request. When completing the form please follow these guidelines.
You cannot apply for the waiting list until ALL sections of a class are full. We will not honor requests to change sections of a class. If you enroll in a class we assume you can attend. We will not move you. So, do not register for a section of a class you cannot attend.
There is no waiting list for the following ITK classes: ITK 115, ITK 140, ITK 150, ITK 191, ITK 214. If you submit a form we just throw it away.
ITK uses ISU email to notify a students on the waiting list when seats are available. Students who request a seat via the waiting list must check their email regularly to know when a seat is being offered.
The ITK Listserv is a mailing list of all ITK majors and minors. The Listserv provides notice to students by email of:
The listserv is composed only of ISU email addresses (xxxxxx @ ilstu.edu.) Only students who have opened their ISU email address will receive the listserv content.
It is not possible to keep track of the large number of email providers and which students have selected which provider .ISU emails addresses are provided to departments and instructors by the university at the beginning of each term. That makes using the ISU email system quick, easy and reliable for ISU instructors and advisors. All you have to do is activate your account.
The ITK Department uses ISU email to notify students of Department and University events, to notify you of admission to a class, and to provide information about registration etc.
You may, if you wish, activate your ISU account and then forward the mail to another provider.
