What do I do if I can't remember my PIN number for registration?

If you changed your PIN number the last time you used iCampus, or you have forgotten it, here is what you can do. You will need to go to Student Services in MOULTON 107 with an ID and ask to revert the PIN back to the birth month/date. If you are off campus and unable to go in person, you may send a letter or fax (438-3193). This must be accompanied with a copy of an ID, a request to revert the PIN, a handwritten student ID number and a signature.

Remember - you must change your PIN from the original birth date combo, but you only need to do this one time, not every time you enter the system or at every registration.

Can I take a class credit/no credit?

Some courses at ISU may be taken pass/fail or credit/no credit. Remember, no course required for your major or minor can be taken pass/fail. This includes supporting requirements such as math, accounting, communications (any of the courses that are required under the major). These courses are also calculated into your major GPA. If you take a course required for your major pass/fail you may have to repeat the class.

Remember, at ISU a grade of A, B, C is pass. A grade of D or F is fail.

How do I sign up for an audit? Can I just sit in on a class?

The ITK Department does not allow its courses to be taken on an audit basis.

You must be registered for all classes that you attend.

How do I get a Internship? / What do I do after I have secured a position as an intern?

Finding an internship position is often a source of anxiety for many students. Internship registration forms and other useful information is available on the Internship Page.

Where can students look for available internship positions? Here are a few places to start:

  • Take ITK 191.
  • List your resume eRecruiting - see Career Center for more information
  • Attend the Job Fair in the fall and spring terms - dates are announced on the ITK listserv
  • Watch the ITK Listserv for job and internship announcements

After you have secured a position here is what you need to do:

  • Fill out the Professional Practice Registration form, an insurance form and Form 1.
Submit these forms AND a letter of confirmation from the employer to the Faculty Professional Practice Coordinator.
  • Your position will be confirmed and a permit given for the appropriate course(s). You will not be able to sign up until an permit is entered.
  • You will be notified by email regarding registration for either 398.5, 398.6, or both. To receive credit, you must register for these courses. Specific instructions for registration will be included in the email.

Which ITK electives are offered fall semester?   spring semester?

It would be impossible for the department to offer all of the courses listed in the catalog every semester, or even every year. For this reason, some are offered as "Fall Only" or "Spring Only" courses, while others are designated as "Alternate years, or less frequently". Here is a current list of when certain classes will be offered, i.e Fall, Spring or less frequently.

In planning your courses, please note the following:

Can I drop this class now?

The schedule for dropping a class varies based on the semester and the length of the class. In general, you may drop a class through iCampus without having a grade assigned anytime during early registration and up through the tenth day of classes.

After the tenth class day, and up until the end of the eighth week of classes, you will need to submit a signed drop form to Registration (MOULTON 107) and you will receive a WX for any class that is dropped. This will not affect your GPA, but will count as an enrollment in that class. (Remember, you will need special permission to enroll in a course more than twice.)

After the eighth week of classes, you may not drop a course, and if you do not attend the class, you will receive an F. This will impact your GPA! Exceptions to this policy may be granted only for unusual, documented circumstances such as medical problems or family emergencies.

We strongly recommend you speak with your Advisor before dropping any class.

How important is your grade point average?

Grade point average is extremely important in the field of Information Technology. Your GPA is an indicator not only of how well you demonstrated knowledge of course content but also how determined you are to excel. Not every one with a 3.0 GPA is necessarily "smarter" than someone with a 2.5 but they have achieved a higher goal. The ability to achieve is important. The higher your GPA is the more opportunities you will have because more companies will have an interest in attracting you to their firm.

Remember you must have a GPA of 2.0 or better in your major as well as a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to graduate from ISU. If you are completing a minor, your minor GPA must also be 2.0 or higher.

I'm graduating! What do I need to do?

If you are nearing graduation, here’s your checklist:

  1. Get a copy of your "Academic Progress Summary" from the Student Service and Referral Center, Moulton 107. Check it out for any discrepancies or missing course credits.
  2. See your ITK advisor to make certain your plan of study is complete. Sometimes we need to enter your electives or write a substitution/waiver after you have completed a course. Remember, much of this system works by default and needs to be customized to meet your goals.
  3. Apply for graduation early. Graduation is not automatic with completion of the courses. The cut-off date for applying is quite early in the semester, so watch the calendar or apply at the end of the next-to-last semester. Forms are available from the Student Service and Referral Center, Moulton 107 and there is a $25.00 charge.
  4. Make sure you have completed the Constitution Tests and the Global Studies requirement.

If you are going to graduate in the summer and want to participate in graduation ceremonies in the spring (it will thrill your parents), you may elect to do so although you will not get your diploma until after you finish in the summer. To participate in the ceremony contact the Registrar's office in MOULTON Hall.
