Graduation - Graduate Program

Early in the semester of planned graduation, students must complete a number of forms in order to prepare for graduation. These forms include the Masters Plan of Study form and an Application for Completion of Graduate Degree.

Masters Plan of Study Form

Early in the semester of anticipated graduation, each graduate student must complete a Masters Plan of Study form. This form requires you to provide a detailed listing of all courses you plan to use toward your graduate degree.

Please read the following information carefully before completing the Masters Plan of Study form.

Important Details

  • Read the form carefully before you begin completing it. The course information requested is clearly spelled out in the heading for each section.
  • Sign the form before submitting the original and three photocopies to the ITK Graduate Advisor.
  • Pay attention to submission deadlines. (See: When is the Plan of Study due?)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my Major and Sequence?

Your specific major and sequence (if applicable) may be found by accessing the degree requirements for the year you began the program.

What degree and option do I check in the top section of the form?

  • If you are completing the course option, you should check “M. S.” and the “39 hour option.”
  • If you are completing the thesis option, you should check “M. S.” and the “with thesis” option.
  • If you are completing the project option, you should check “M. S.” and the “project” option.

Do I include my transfer course(s) on the form?

If you have already applied for and have had approved the transfer of course(s) into the program, you must complete the Transfer Courses section of the form. Be sure to include the total number of transfer hours at the bottom of the form. Also include these in the “Total Graduate Hours” calculation.

What do I include in the Deficiency Courses section?

You need only complete this section if you were required to take ITK foundation courses at the beginning of the program. Include the requested information about each foundation course required (if applicable) in this section. The maximum number of foundation courses required of any one student is six.

When is the Plan of Study due?

Submit your completed Masters Plan of Study to the ITK Graduate Advisor at least three working days before the Graduate School’s Deadline for the semester you plan to graduate. These deadlines may be found in the Important Dates and Deadlines document.

How many copies should I submit?

You should submit the original and three copies to the ITK Graduate Advisor. The Advisor will review the forms, sign them, and forward them to the Graduate School on or before the deadline, provided your forms are received at least three full working days before the deadline.

Application for Completion of Graduate Degree

Early in the semester of anticipated graduation, you must complete an Application for Completion of Graduate Degree and pay a $30.00 fee. The form should be completed and either dropped off or mailed along with payment to the:

Reapplication for Completion of Graduate Degree

If you apply for graduation for a specific semester but do not graduate that semester, your application for graduation will be cancelled.

You must reapply for a future semester by calling the Graduate School at 438-2583 or visiting them at Hovey 309 early in the semester during which you plan to graduate. They will update your application without any additional fee.

A new Plan of Study need not be filed unless significant changes to the plan have been made.

Commencement

Participation in Commencement is purely optional, but you must indicate on your Application for Completion of Graduate Degree whether or not you wish to participate. Additional information regarding commencement may be found at the Graduation Services Web site.

Students completing their degrees in May or August participate in the May Commencement Ceremony. Students completing their degrees in December participate in the December Commencement Ceremony.
