The purpose of the Publication Incentive Program is to increase the scholarly productivity of faculty and therefore enhance the national reputation of CAST departments.

Publication Incentive Program (PIP)

The Publication Incentive Program (PIP), an ongoing program initiated in 1988, is supported by the CAST Research Office. This program sets aside travel funds to award faculty, staff and administrators in CAST who have an article published in a national level refereed journal or have a chapter or book published for national distribution. All CAST employees (half time or more) are eligible for these funds.

For FY09 (publication between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009), the following criteria determine the award:

  1. CAST faculty who are sole author or have shared joint authorship with one or more CAST students (undergraduate or graduate) are eligible for $300 in travel funds.

  2. CAST faculty who are one of two or more authors, including any student author(s), for a publication are eligible for $225 in travel funds.

  3. If an individual has received an award previously from the college for a given work, it is ineligible.

*In a given fiscal year, a given faculty member may receive no more than $900 from this support program.

** Funds subject to availability

An application consists of three components: 1) a copy of the published article; 2) evidence that the article was peer reviewed; 3) the CAST Publication Verification Form. Submit your application to the chair/director of your academic unit. After the chair/director signs the verification form to assure adherence to the guidelines submit the application to the Associate Dean for Research (CAST 5000). If accepted, you will receive a letter indicating the amount of the award. When you apply for reimbursement, enclose a copy of the award letter with your travel claim. Funds must be spent within one calendar year.
