College of Applied Science & Technology

The purpose of the CAST Mentoring Program is to provide a formalized and structured program that will assist in the development of scholarship during the faculty member's first three years at ISU.

Research Mentoring Program

The CAST Research Office is committed to the development of scholarship in new tenure-track faculty members.  Under the current ASPT system, each new tenure-track faculty member is required to be evaluated annually in the area of scholarship, for both tenure and promotion.

This program should not be considered the only mechanism for such support.  It will complement each department's efforts to facilitate a new tenure-track faculty member's efforts to establish a productive research agenda.

The CAST Mentoring Program is a voluntary one for both mentees and mentors.  New faculty members will be given information about the CAST Mentoring Program by the CAST Associate Dean for Research.  An orientation for new faculty members sponsored by the CAST Dean's Office is typically conducted in September.  The orientation is one forum for discussing nature and benefits of the program.  Review the Mentoring Program Overiew (pdf) for basic information about the program's activities, expectations, and procedures.
